The Mathematics Learning Area at Ocean Reef Senior High School provides students with a challenging curriculum that develops proficiency in understanding, reasoning, and problem solving. Students acquire and develop numeracy capabilities, needed for their personal, vocational, and civic life.
Our courses cover essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
Number and Algebra
In Number and Algebra, our students recognise patterns and understand the concepts of variable and function. They build their understanding of the number system, solve equations, and apply their skills to conduct investigations, solve problems and communicate their reasoning.
Measurement and Geometry
In Measurement and Geometry, students develop an increasingly sophisticated understanding of size, shape, relative position and movement of figures. They learn to develop geometric arguments and choose appropriate metric units to make meaningful measurements of quantities.
Statistics and Probability
In Statistics and Probability students recognise and analyse data, and draw inferences. They undertake purposeful investigations involving the collection and interpretation of data. Students develop the ability to critically evaluate, and make reasonable judgements and decisions.
